About Ruby
(she/her)
Everyone has the inner strength to navigate through life's challenges in a meaningful way that can provide clarity and overall well-being.
I am a registered Counselling Psychologist with over 16 years of clinical experience, offering compassionate therapy grounded in a psychodynamic framework. My practice focuses on creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can explore their inner worlds, fostering healing through trust, cultural awareness, and deep reflection on life’s challenges. My career spans diverse clinical environments, including Helen Joseph Hospital, where I addressed complex psychological needs in the Themba Lethu HIV Clinic, Renal Unit, Oncology Ward, and Trauma Accident Unit. Here, I supported individuals navigating life- threatening illnesses, chronic pain, somatic disorders, and trauma recovery. Beyond hospital settings, I have dedicated significant time to trauma-informed advocacy, collaborating with the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation to provide therapy for refugees, survivors of war, and LGBTQI+ individuals, with a focus on systemic oppression and identity- related challenges. My approach integrates gender-affirming healthcare practices, ensuring compassionate support for transgender and gender-diverse clients navigating systemic barriers.
In addition to hospital-based and advocacy work, I run a general practice treating a variety of mental health conditions such as mood and anxiety disorders, including depression, self- harm, and suicidal ideation. I am particularly passionate about early childhood development, offering play-based therapy for children under five and guidance for parents navigating infant-related challenges.
A cornerstone of my work is intersectional, culturally responsive therapy, deeply informed by socio-political contexts, intergenerational influences, and cultural humility. I believe in honouring each client’s unique narrative, weaving personal and collective stories into a path toward resilience and growth.
I am available Fridays in Pretoria for in-person or online sessions.
